FAQ: Main Choir
Are there auditions?
We do not hold auditions, however, we will be conducting vocal placements during the second rehearsal. This will give us an opportunity to listen to your voice and place you in the right choral section. Vocal placements also gives us an idea about the style and rigor of songs that we can learn as a choir.
How often are rehearsals?
Rehearsals are only once a week for two hours. Due to the fact that we have such limited time, it is VERY important that everyone shows up on time and does their best to attend every scheduled rehearsal.
Based on our progression with the songs, we may schedule an extra Saturday rehearsal here and there so that we can focus on strengthening the repertoire.
Prior to every concert there will be an extra dress rehearsal.
On the first day of rehearsal, we will hand out/e-mail a schedule of the rehearsals for the semester. Please plan accordingly.
How many performances are there per semester?
There is one major concert and at least one additional performance.
Do I have to be a Christian to join?
No. We invite individuals from all backgrounds to join us! The only thing that we ask is that you bring a positive attitude, an open-mind, energy and a willingness to learn something new (or maybe not so new)!
Why should I join?
There is something that is so inherently special about gospel music. It has the ability to lift and encourage the spirits of all those who sing and listen to it. When you sing gospel music, you can’t help but omit joy and for just two hours once a week - you can forget about classes, the future, the present and just focus on feeling happiness!
As college students, there are very few moments moments throughout the week where we can stop and breathe. Rehearsals every Monday are not only an opportunity to do just that - but it is also a place where you can have fun, learn to sing gospel music, and develop friendships with beautiful people!
